Slapstick Punch and Judy Hit Wellington Traditional Punch and Judy shows have been around for centuries. Now Christchurch’s Doc Drumheller is bringing his Punch and Judy show with its bright, fantastical, traditional puppets to Wellington’s Civic Square from Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 February from noon. Doc’s Punch and Judy show is part of the Fringe NZ Festival
Some people worry that Punch and Judy, with their knockabout humour, may incite children to violence. Doc believes, along with many other Punch and Judy Professors (Punch and Judy operators), that Punch and Judy are to domestic violence what Tom and Jerry are to animal cruelty and the Keystone Cops are to police brutality.

Did you know that: The stick Mr. Punch wields to beat Judy is the ‘slapstick ’ that gave its name to the whole genre of broad physical comedy.
