Auckland Grammar Win Interdominion Title
The Auckland Grammar School Sailing Team members were back at school this morning after winning the Interdominion School Teams Racing Contest.
The contest took place on the Derwent River in Hobart against The Hutchins School ofTasmania. The six member Grammar team beat The Hutchins School by 11 points to 8 in the best of 21 races.
At the end of Day One, the New Zealanders held a healthy 7 - 3 lead. In an exciting day of racing on Day Two the Australians were able to peg the Kiwis back to 9 - 8 before the Auckland Grammar team took the last two races of the day to finish 11 - 8.
The Victorious Auckland Grammar School Sailing team consists of: Geoff Woolley (Remuera) Jonathon Rankine (St Heliers) Scott Illingworth (Westmere) Phillip Roberston (Glendowie) David Robertson (Glendowie) Michael Thorpe (Remuera)
Yachting New Zealand's National Programmes Coordinator Julie Worth comments "It is exciting to see so many of our top youth sailors, competing in a variety of classes and still performing at the highest level. Teams Racing is not easy for individual sailors to excel at, but the Auckland Grammar Team did a great job of coming together as a team".
