Gerhard Richter Survey 12 October - 1 December 2002 A survey of exemplary works by Gerhard Richter, one of the most internationally acclaimed German artists working today. Curated by Gotz Adriani and Gerhard Richter, the exhibition explores Richter's relentless questioning of the language of painting, from the photo-paintings of the 1960s to the abstract paintings of the 1980s and 90s. 'Life is not what is said, but is the process of saying, not the created picture, but the creating' (Richter, 1989). An exhibition catalogue is available. An exhibition presented by the Institute of Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa), Germany, in co-operation with the Goethe-Institut Inter Nationes Wellington.
John Parker*Ceramics 12 October - 1 December 2002 John Parker*Ceramics surveys the 35 year career and current work of one of New Zealand's foremost ceramicists. This will be the first major exhibition of John Parker's work since 1990, and the first time his work has been presented in a public gallery on this scale. Featuring work from the major periods of his career as well as a significant new body of the white ceramics for which he is most widely known, this exhibition acknowledges Parker's achievement not only as a ceramicist but as an artist working in any medium. A major retrospective book of John Parker's work is to be co-published by City Gallery Wellington and David Bateman Ltd.

Gerhard Richter: What should I paint? How should I paint? Thursday 10 October, 6pm A unique opportunity to hear German curator Martin Schmid present an illustrated lecture exploring Gerhard Richter's works, styles, shows and personal statements. A Journey Through Gerhard Richter's Works Saturday 12 October, 2pm A personal tour of the Gerhard Richter Survey exhibition by a German curator Martin Schmid.
