Artists At Work
Portraits of New Zealand artists
Artists At Work is a series of portraits of major New Zealand artists featuring legendary people such as Greg Matahi
Whakataka Brightwell, Keith Patterson, Robyn White and Jim Allen.
The series is filmed and produced by Auckland artist and filmmaker Darcy Lange. Artists At Work will screen on Triangle
Television from Saturday 24th June.
The Artists At Work series is unique as Darcy Lange, as an artist himself, has produced this series of profiles of
people he considers friends. Lange’s unobstrusive style places the focus of the programme firmly on each artist and his
or her work.
Each half-hour programme features a New Zealand artist with the first four episodes profiling respectively Keith
Patterson, Claudia Pond-Eyley, Jim Allen and Robyn White.
The portrait of Keith Patterson was shot in Spain in 1986. All other episodes were shot in New Zealand within the last
year.
"The series was inspired by internationally acclaimed New York artist Dan Graham of Tate Gallery and European stature,"
says Darcy Lange.
Lange produced his first portrait of Graham in 1977 in Amsterdam. Although the portrait of Dan Graham does not feature
in this series of solely New Zealand artists, Lange says he intends to produce another series of portraits focusing on
international artists.
Artists featured in this series include: Jim Allen, Phillipa Blair, Graham Brett, Barry Brickhill, Ted Bullmore, Robert
Ellis, Ralph Hotere, Alexis Hunter, Alyson Hunter, Rick Killeen, Marianne Muggeridge, Keith Patterson, Claudia
Pond-Eyley, Ross Ritchie, Ken Robinson, Greer Twiss, Greg Matahi Whakataka Brightwell, Robyn White and Arnold Wilson.
