PAK `N SAVE SHOPPERS BETTER OFF
A New Zealand owned and operated supermarket chain has once again topped an annual survey of supermarket prices.
For eight out of the last nine years, Pak `N Save has had the lowest prices in a survey of New Zealand supermarkets,
carried out by a leading consumer magazine*. This year's survey results, which were released yesterday, show Pak `N
Saves' prices are significantly cheaper for groceries, meat and produce.
"This survey confirms that people who have shopped at Pak `N Save over the last decade have consistently paid less for
their supermarket shopping," says Hugh Perrett, the managing director of Foodstuffs Auckland, part of the organisation
behind the national supermarket chain.
"Our publicly stated policy has always been to deliver New Zealand's lowest prices, and this survey shows we have done
that."
Hugh Perrett says the reason Pak `N Save remains so competitive is because it combines huge bulk buying power with the
handling economies of a warehouse, which means buying and operating costs are kept down and savings passed on to
customers.
Private labels such as the popular Pam's and Budget ranges are also key to keeping prices low.
"All the stores are owner operated, so the formula for success has been developed by New Zealanders specifically for
this market," says Hugh Perrett.
"We don't advertise often, so rely heavily on our reputation to deliver on our "lowest prices" promise. This annual
survey shows we have done that throughout the nineties, and we will continue to do so."
