New Zealand’s Biomedical Innovation and Practical Healthcare Solutions Highlighted at Medica 2008
Globally recognised for its strengths and expertise across a range of sectors, such as biotechnology, ICT and specialised manufacturing, New Zealand is now blending this expertise and building up an enviable reputation in medical technologies. Medtech in New Zealand is a unique and innovative niche sector that has enjoyed significant growth in the last five years. Comprising of highly specialised companies with extensive expertise and considerable business acumen, the sector has a proven record of developing cutting-edge technologies and products.
Some of New Zealand's leading medical technology companies are once again showing strong presence at the world's largest medical trade fair Medica, being held in Düsseldorf, Germany this week. With more than 4300 exhibitors spread over 19 halls and an impressive 140,000 trade visitors expected over four days, Medica is the world’s largest medical trade show. It provides New Zealand companies with a unique opportunity to attract international business opportunities including distribution networks.
“New Zealanders seem to have an innate ability to think differently, 'mix and matching' diverse technologies to find novel ways to improve patient outcomes and healthcare delivery,” noted New Zealand Trade and Enterprise's (NZTE) medical technologies sector manager Rachael McGuckian.
“New Zealand medtech businesses exemplify how a collaborative and solutions focused approach allows them to compete internationally. Many of the companies exhibiting at Medica have already expanded beyond the shores of New Zealand and have achieved great success in the global health care industry.
"Medica is a chance for companies to showcase their technologies, products and innovations to an audience that is actively seeking to make networks. It's also a chance for New Zealand to demonstrate that our medical technologies are amongst the best in the world."
The New Zealand contingent includes: Adept Medical, Canterbury Scientific, Chiptech, Comvita, Industrial Research Limited, KM Medical, Multifit Hospital Supplies, Orion Health, Precept Health, Pulsecor, WinScribe and Zephyr Technologies. A number of other New Zealand companies, including Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, will be exhibiting independently of the NZTE-coordinated pavilion.
The New Zealand pavilion at Medica 2008, featuring distinctive imagery and branding, will provide the backdrop for 12 New Zealand companies. For more information about New Zealand medical technology companies exhibiting at Medica 2008, visit www.nzbio.org/medica08.
In addition to the show itself, participating companies have the opportunity to attend networking events designed to directly connect them with prospective partners in selected European markets.
