NZCU Auckland Primary School Scholarships Doubled
WEDNESDAY 31 JANUARY 2018 – It was announced this week that the number of NZCU Auckland Primary School Scholarships offered for 2018 would double to twenty with another ten going to Secondary pupils. Now in their ninth year, the School Scholarships Programme will provide thirty lucky pupils with money to help pay some of the costs for the 2018 school year. Scholarships of $250 each will be given to 20 Primary/Intermediate pupils and 10 Secondary pupils will receive $500 each.
“We’ve heard a lot of dissatisfaction lately from parents, the Government and schools themselves about the cost of education and we’ve decided to do something about it,” said Rob Collins, General Manager of NZCU Auckland.
“The Government even went so far as to warn parents of low income families this week not to get involved with loan sharks and high interest finance companies to fund the rising costs of sending their kids to school. We agree that schools should not be making profits from the sale of uniforms, stationery or technology”, Rob said.
He hoped that this latest increase in the number of Scholarships was supportive of the new Government’s goal of dramatically improving the welfare of children. Rob commented that the response to this programme over each of the last nine years had been amazing. The applications received have shown that NZCU Auckland has a large number of bright intelligent children amongst the families of its Members who were desperately keen to build themselves a strong educational foundation to help get the things they want in life.
Scholarships are available to the children or grandchildren of customers who bank with NZCU Auckland. The child must be enrolled at a school recognised by the Ministry of Education for the 2018 year.
“The Scholarships are awarded to the recipients at a special awards evening and it is a real pleasure to meet the pupils who receive them and see the pride of their parents, grandparents, care givers and teachers” said Rob.
Applications remain open until 10th February. Final decisions as to who get the scholarships after reviewing all the applications. The Scholarships will be paid to the schools in the names of the successful pupils for their use for any school expense such as fees, stationery, trips, etc.
