This month CHIA is launching AWAKA Sparkling Coconut Water – the first of its kind in New Zealand - and two new CHIA flavours: Coconut Water & Mango and Feijoa and Pink Guava. Innovation and nutrition lie at the heart of the CHIA company. AWAKA Sparkling Coconut Water is infused with New
Zealand fruit in New Zealand Blackcurrant and New Zealand Lemon varieties.
AWAKA is refreshing like a lemonade but without refined sugar and with the natural goodness of coconut water. Like the
new CHIA flavours AWAKA has under than 4% natural sugars – less than trim milk.
Orders from Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and over 200 New Zealand stockists have been placed for the new CHIA
varieties and AWAKA before the first bottling run this week, “we have had an overwhelming response from cafes looking
for a sophisticated, healthy sparkling range” says founder Chloe Van Dyke.
The AWAKA concept was crafted on a team mountain bike ride, “most weeks we ride on a Thursday morning, the purpose is to
create a space for creative thinking and to bounce ideas, because they don’t happen behind a computer screen.”
The idea behind AWAKA came from Logistics Manager David Ayre, "the goal was a light and thirst quenching drink for
summer. Coconut water is a great source of natural electrolytes and when blended with New Zealand fruits like
blackcurrant and lemon it is extremely refreshing" says David.
Chloe explains that when CHIA launched in 2012 the company knew they were pushing boundaries.
“We are going to continue to be creative, evolve quickly, and give New Zealanders something different and something
better.”
