Electropar Network Evening Delivers to Full House
Engineers who registered early for the limited available places were not disappointed when the Maintenance Engineering
Society held its SKF Network Evening at Electropar PLP in East Tamaki in October.
After a brief introduction by MESNZ committee members Craig Carlyle and Barry Robinson outlining MESNZ activities as
well as details on the November SKF National Maintenance Engineering Conference, Electropar’s Marketing Manager Mike
Barker welcomed the 30+ engineers with a helicopter view of Electropar’s history, its products and its markets. The
company is involved with a very wide range of industrial products many of which the audience was unaware of. Of special
interest was the newly introduced fire retardant aerosol which interested engineers with its “clean” kill effect, a
significant factor when protecting sensitive plant.
The plant tour was led by Chief Engineer Aaron Tai, beginning with a practical demonstration of their newly designed
tensile test machine, providing much interest with the final fracture making everyone jump. The group then moved to the
high voltage test bed which utilised a redundant 11KV transformer to conduct test on electrical short circuit cables.
The results of the short circuit demonstration on a 15mm diameter electrical cable were spectacular, showing the effect
on the insulation as it approaches catastrophic failure.
The group was then shown various other areas of interest including a plastic 3D printer for the manufacture of newly
designed and short-run products, and laser coding machines which enable traceable codes to be put onto all the
components produced.
Electropar has a wide range of general machines available to assist them produce high quality products such as CNC
machines, large mechanical presses and an excellent welding department to name a few.
The Evening closed with an opportunity to further enjoy the hospitality of Electropar, and a huge thank you to Mike
Kenny, Mike Barker, Aaron Tai and their team for opening their company for this event.
