Emerging global architectural trends feature in Defign 2015
It’s been a year of compact homes, with homeowners opting for smaller designs when it comes to engaging an architectural designer to plan a new home or renovation.
The second issue of ADNZ’s Defign magazine was released today, and when it came to the task of selecting designs to feature, editor Adrienne Anderson says she noted the old adage of ‘less is more’ – an emerging global trend in architectural design that’s making its mark on Kiwi designers as well.
“We’ve really noticed this year that there’s a smaller and smarter approach. Homes are more compact for a number of reasons – some clients are gearing towards a smaller footprint with a higher quality build, while others are interested in reducing costs.”
One example of this smaller approach is ADNZ member David Maurice’s award-winning design ‘Duncansby Road’ which picked up the Residential Compact New Home up to 150m2 Award in the 2014 ADNZ | Resene Architectural Design Awards. The design was praised for its fine detailing and features in Defign 2015.
This issue of Defign showcases over 70 exceptional architecturally designed homes and commercial premises including SUPREME award winner in the 2014 ADNZ | Resene Architectural Design Awards, Tane Cox with his design ‘Modern Barn Form’. There is even a selection of innovative furniture and lighting designers with products to complement a range of different designs.
Defign magazine was launched for the first time last year, and ADNZ CEO Astrid Andersen says the magazine has gone from strength to strength. She says she’s been absolutely blown away by the quality of members designs over the last year, and that it has been a privilege to feature many of them in this year’s issue of the magazine.
“Defign is all about celebrating the unique talent of Kiwi designers. When we were putting it together, we were amazed at the high calibre of designs by ADNZ members over the past year. We know that just like our first issue, this is a magazine that will provide inspiration all year round for anyone looking at building or renovating a home.”
In addition to the annual magazine, Defign also publishes weekly design articles on its website www.defign.co.nz
You can purchase your copy of Defign from key Countdown and New World stores, Relay bookstores, Paper Plus and all good independent booksellers. Or contact ADNZ at reception@adnz.org.nz
