Cheap water locks in more jobs
New 24-pack 600ml water first to lock down at less than 42c each
21 November 2014: From tomorrow Countdown is locking down the price of water to less than 42c a bottle, with a new 600ml Signature Range 24 pack available for just $10.
Countdown’s General Manager for Merchandise, Steve Donohue, says the company has worked closely with their Putaruru supplier, New Zealand Quality Waters, to offer the pack size at a brand new everyday low price.
“Bottled water is a staple in many Kiwi households and we want to provide the most competitive offer out there. This is top quality, pure New Zealand spring water, at a great price that is locked down so customers can get it every day,” says Steve.
As well as dropping the price by more than 42%, the bottle has increased by 20% from 500ml to 600ml.
The collaboration has meant New Zealand Quality Waters, which sources water from the famous Putaruru Blue Spring, has been able to expand their business and take on more staff.
“Working with Countdown has given us the stability to invest and expand our business with a new product development such as this. We know this offer is going to be really popular with customers so we’ve also recently invested in new technology to produce our own bottles on site, and to have greater capacity and efficiency in our production.
“Additionally this partnership has also meant a further 14 jobs have been created in the local Putaruru community, which is fantastic,” says owner Ian Riley.
The Signature Range 24-packs are the latest addition to Countdown’s Price Lockdown programme, which has saved Kiwis more than $30 million through cutting the everyday price of more than 700 products in the last year alone.
