Icebreaker Merino Announces Partnership with Antarctica New Zealand
Auckland, November 18, 2014 – Icebreaker, the world’s leading New Zealand merino wool outdoor apparel company, is proud to announce a partnership with Antarctica
New Zealand, the Crown Entity responsible for developing, managing and executing New Zealand Government activities in
Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. As part of the partnership, Icebreaker will provide merino wool base layers and
accessories to the Antarctica New Zealand team, who conduct research in below freezing temperatures all year round.
“Icebreaker is thrilled to partner with Antarctica New Zealand - our ethos are perfectly aligned,” says Jeremy Moon,
Founder of Icebreaker. “We have a shared mission to build upon the way we interact with nature, a passion for
collaboration, acting with integrity, and a sincere commitment to protecting the environment.”
The Icebreaker layering system will be an integral element of the gear worn by the Antarctica New Zealand team in an
environment where temperatures can plummet to – 50°C. Through this ongoing partnership, the Antarctica New Zealand team
will be outfitted in Icebreaker’s warmest merino wool mountaineering socks and classic 200-weight Oasis Crewe. These
items provide a ‘next to skin’ fiber that is perfect for this climate, wicking away moisture and containing millions of
tiny air pockets that trap body heat to maximize warmth.
"Icebreaker base layers keep our team comfortable and warm in the harshest Antarctic conditions,” says Jeanine Begg,
General Manager Marketing and Communications, Antarctica New Zealand. "The team are proud to be wearing an iconic kiwi
brand which is globally recognised and adds to our culture."
