Iconic 132 year old Australian racing event goes Social.
One of Australia richest and the world’s most remote race meetings have in a world first auctioned off the naming rights for the last race of the day with social media giant Facebook..
Considered by many as one of the Australia’s most iconic and historic sporting events the organizer’s this year have jumped into the 21st century and run a live auction directly in their Facebook page. As a world first world first the auction successfully closed today. The organizers said.

A fantastic amount has been raised for our Official Charity Partner, the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia. We will share the final race name with you soon...”
The app called BuddyBid is currently being used to offer a lyric sheet of Royals” wriiten by pop sensation Lorde who scribed them on the evening she won a Grammy for the same song. Soon after she gifted them to founding Split Enz member Mike Chunn to raise funds for his New Zealand music education trust “Play it Strange”.
“It makes sense given the social following Lorde has – this idea of going to where the fans want to be is the right idea – and the results speak for them selves..we’ve had bids and donations from all over the world.” said Debbie Little, General Manger of the Play it Strange Trust.
The Kiwi start up Buddybid has Australian backing and has recently signed up Grays Online, McDonalds and Thomas Cook Global among others.
Lorde’s auction runs until 10am Monday 1st September, 2014
