10 July 2014
The trend for New Zealand guest nights has continued to grow and is at a new high, Statistics New Zealand said today.
"All trend series for guest nights are rising and most are also at new highs," business indicators manager Neil Kelly said.
In May 2014 (after removing seasonal variation):
• New Zealand guest nights rose 2.3 percent, after a rise of 3.4 percent in April.
• North Island guest nights rose 3.6 percent, while South Island guest nights fell 0.5 percent.
• Domestic guest nights rose 3.9 percent, while international guest nights fell 0.3 percent.
• Guest nights rose for all four accommodation types.
The Accommodation Survey records the number of guests staying in hotels, motels, backpacker accommodation, and holiday parks in New Zealand each month.
