External evaluation becoming an essential boardroom tool
Auckland, 11th June 2014 - ‘Integral Leadership’, ‘Mindfulness’ and ‘Emotional Intelligence’ are terms becoming
increasingly familiar in corporate boardrooms throughout the world.
Here to spread the word about these and other leading edge practices is Robert Gordon, of Australian consultancy Board
Accord.
“The 21st Century boardroom is defined by transparency and accountability’ said Robert. “More than ever a Board is
expected to function effectively as a group, in the best interests of the shareholders. And it needs to be seen to be
doing so.”
Mr Gordon, who has worked with a wide range of organisations in both the public and private sectors, says a regular
external audit is not only a good discipline for the board, but a reassurance for stake holders and a positive
contribution to the organisation’s public profile.
He uses a number of assessment and coaching techniques, online and face-to-face, to evaluate both the group and
individual members and to work with them to optimise the board’s functional effectiveness.
Mr Gordon is also in demand for presentations and workshops. In August, for example, his address to the Better Boards
Conference in Adelaide is called ‘Dealing with damn difficult directors.’
Robert Gordon is in Auckland from 11th to 13th June, familiarising himself with the New Zealand business scene.
