Guest nights trend continues to rise
12 March 2014
The trend for New Zealand guest nights continues to rise and has reached a new record high, Statistics New Zealand said
today. Most trend series are rising.
"The trend for North Island guest nights has flattened, but is at a record high level," business indicators manager Neil
Kelly said. "The South Island guest nights trend is showing a gradual recovery towards pre-earthquake levels."
In March 2014 (after removing seasonal variation):
• New Zealand guest nights fell 1.6 percent, after a rise of 2.4 percent in February.
• North Island guest nights fell 2.6 percent, and South Island guest nights fell 1.6 percent.
• Domestic guest nights fell 1.8 percent, and international guest nights fell 1.5 percent.
• Guest nights fell for motels, hotels, and holiday parks, but rose slightly for backpacker accommodation.
The Accommodation Survey records the number of guests staying in hotels, motels, backpacker accommodation, and holiday
parks in New Zealand each month.
