Auckland gets Mardi Gras before the rest of the world.
Tomorrow signifies the start of Mardi Gras day and New Zealand will be the first in the world to start the celebrations
with a 19 hour head start.
Auckland’s Miss Clawdy in Wynard Quarter marks the international celebration tomorrow before it hits Mardi Gras
hometowns including Louisiana, New Orleans and other cities in Southern and South America.
Diners have the chance to toast to the carnival season with DJ NICK D kick starting the tunes at 6pm. The evening will
also involve a special performance by carnival dancers offering public the chance to learn a few samba moves to get into
the Mardi Gras spirit.
Miss Clawdy’s kitchen have also added a little Southern magic to their menu offering exclusive Mardi Gras inspired
cocktails and food dishes made only for this day. Hay roasted suckling pig, caramel popcorn, Louisiana barbeque sauce
and fried bread will be just one of the many dishes on offer and one not to be missed.
Finally, to bring a piece of the Southern celebration to New Zealand, Miss Clawdy invites diners to hang Mardi Gras
beads on the official Mardi Gras tree to make them a part of the Auckland celebration. Diners will be given beads every
time a dish or cocktail is purchased from the Mardi Gras menu.
