Get What You're Owed Through Facebook
For the first time, Kiwis can file their personal tax returns via Facebook
New Zealand’s leading online tax refund company, MyTax.co.nz, has made it even easier for Kiwis to apply for their
annual personal tax refund – they can now do it online through Facebook.com.
MyTax.co.nz has just launched their new, easy tax return application process, which can be completed entirely through
their Facebook page. This is the first time New Zealanders will be able to file for their personal tax return on
Facebook.
“Facebook is one of the world’s most highly used websites, with 1.1 billion users worldwide,” says James Cameron,
MyTax.co.nz’s Social Media Manager. “Young smartphone users alone will check their Facebook on average 14 times a day.
It just makes sense for us to engage with our customers there."
“The existing MyTax.co.nz Facebook community – over 53,000 fans - has been positive about the new application, with one
user adding the comment “That was so simple to complete. Show me the money!”
Cameron says that while the traditional model for social media marketing is to drive visitors from the social platform
to the business website, MyTax.co.nz investigated the conversion ratios, and realised real value existed in integrating
its application process with its Facebook page.
“One of the key obstacles to driving customers to our website from social media is that they tend to prefer not to leave
Facebook,” he says. “So what we've done is give people the option to use our tax refund service without the perceived
hassle of leaving Facebook.”
MyTax.co.nz Chief Executive Lester Binns says that the company intends to continue making the most of the different ways
you can use social media to engage with customers.
“MyTax.co.nz embraced the growth in social media back in 2008, and we continue to use it as the primary way of both
reaching and interacting with people. We are excited about the current and future impact of Facebook and other social
media on our continuing business growth.”
