Whalebus Design Competition Marks the Beginning of Relationship Between Nakedbus.com and Whale Rescue Charity Project
Jonah
Whales and buses aren’t traditionally associated with one another. However, whale rescue charity Project Jonah and low
fare travel provider nakedbus.com are collaborating in a new and exciting way. To mark the start of this relationship,
nakedbus.com will be painting one of their buses in a marine conservation theme.
To engage their supporters, they are running a ‘whalebus’ design competition that will feature the winning artists work
on the side of a bus travelling around New Zealand. The entrants are encouraged to use their creative flair to design
the bus’ livery; from a bus sized whale to a mural of dolphins spread across the length of the bus, Project Jonah and
nakedbus.com have an open mind; any design will be accepted as long as it has a marine theme.
Open to all New Zealanders over fifteen years old, entrants must get their designs in before the deadline of 31 August
2013.
The winner will be invited to the official launch in Auckland and will receive a prize package worth over eight hundred
dollars, not to mention the privilege of seeing their design cruising around New Zealand.
Daren Grover, General Manager of Project Jonah, voiced his excitement for the project;
“This is a very attractive opportunity for emerging graphic design students to get their name and work out there on a
real world project for a great cause”.
The support of nakedbus.com is invaluable for Project Jonah. “As a small ‘not for profit’ charity we are always looking
for new ways to grow awareness of our cause. This is a fantastic opportunity to really interact with our supporters and
inspire the creative culture of New Zealand”.
Both nakedbus.com and Project Jonah supporters will benefit from this relationship with some excellent collaborative
opportunities. This design competition is only the beginning.
Chief Coach of nakedbus.com, Hamish Nuttall, explains how environmental awareness and protection of the New Zealand
environment has a growing importance to their brand and customer base. “A significant proportion of our customers are
tourists, from both overseas and New Zealand, who are mostly here to experience the beauty/majesty/100% pure New Zealand
environment.”
“We believe now, more than ever, it is important to protect our natural environment. By supporting Project Jonah, we
hope this public awareness drive will inspire others to come on the journey so they can continue protecting the marine
environment.”
