Good employers should not be tainted by the few who
exploit migrants
Michael Barnett, head of
the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, was supporting Government
proposals unveiled today to amend the Immigration Act to
make it a specific offence to exploit migrants who hold
temporary work visas.
“All employers who take
advantage of employees should be accountable and employees
should feel comfortable to report when they believe they are
being exploited.”
The overwhelmingly majority of
good employers should not be tainted by the behavior of the
few who attempt to exploit.
He strongly agreed that
unscrupulous employers who set out to exploit migrant
workers should not be tolerated in New
Zealand.
