ANZ helps forge strong agriculture links between India and New Zealand
NZ National Fieldays Society today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with The Confederation of Indian Industry – the industry organisation behind AGRO TECH, India’s largest agricultural technology trade event.
The Memorandum, which was brokered by ANZ, will provide the opportunity for collaboration between the two organisations - and their members - as they promote their international trade activities.
Jon Calder, CEO of NZ National Fieldays Society, and Sunil Kaushal, ANZ Head of India Relations, are in India as part of a business mission led by Minister for Primary Industries, Hon David Carter. The purpose of the mission is to forge closer economic relationships through the primary sector.
Mr Kaushal said ANZ is supportive of the New Zealand Government’s work on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India, and its target of growing merchandise exports to India to at least $2 billion by 2015.
“India is a fast-growing economic power that is forecast to be the world’s third largest economy by 2025. Increasing bilateral trade and agricultural exchange is incredibly important to both the Indian and New Zealand Governments and one of the key elements of the FTA talks,” Mr Kaushal said.
“Farming and agriculture is the dominant industry in India. Greater exchange between the two countries will see India benefit from New Zealand’s world-leading agri technology and expertise. New Zealand will benefit from being a partner supplier to one of Asia’s largest primary producers.
“The Memorandum of Understanding between NZ National Fieldays Society and The Confederation of India Industry will provide a foundation on which further co-operation, trade and investment between the agri sectors of both countries can be built.
“ANZ has a growing presence on the ground in India and is proud to play a role in growing the agriculture and farming sectors of both countries.” The AGRO TECH event is taking place from 1 - 4 December in Chandigarh, North India.
More than 85,000 visitors are expected to attend, including farmers, manufacturers, agricultural entrepreneurs, scientists, universities and policy makers.
New Zealand National Agricultural Fieldays will be held 12-15 June 2013 at Mystery Creek Events Centre, and has the theme ‘Getting down to Business in the Global Economy’.
Jon Calder says the theme will highlight New Zealand’s unique position as an innovative agribusiness-driven economy and our potential to capitalise on the growing international demand for food, protein, and agricultural expertise.
“We take pride in our ability to provide a platform for New Zealand agribusinesses to launch their companies internationally.”
“The Memorandum of Understanding will continue to strengthen the relations between New Zealand and Indian Agribusinesses and the bond between NZ National Fieldays and CII Agrotech,” Mr Calder said.
