New Zealanders aren’t satisfied with having sex 133 times a year
Online adult toy retailer, Adulttoymegastore co.nz, says New Zealanders would be more sexually satisfied if they were having more sex. According to results from their annual Mega Kiwi Sex Survey, the average number of times New Zealanders have sex in a year is 133, or about 3 times a week. However the survey, completed by almost 1500 New Zealanders, also reported that only 31% of us are totally satisfied with our sex lives. The main complaint? We want more.
Adultoymegastore.co.nz Marketing Manager Catherine Fitzgerald says that it isn’t the quality of our sexual encounters that is impeding our satisfaction levels. “While only 31% said they were having enough satisfying sex there was a further 32% that are having what they deem great sex, but just not at the frequency they are after. There was no gender difference in wanting more sex either, so it’s both men and women who are looking to increase the regularity. We’re leading increasingly busy lives and it’s about making time for those intimate moments. ”
And it seems our busy lifestyles don’t take a reprieve while we’re in the throes of passion either. The survey also revealed that 22% of us have thought about work while making love and 14.5% of us have thought about our unpaid bills. Perhaps more alarmingly, a previous partner creeps in to the minds of 32% of us.
So, what are your best chances of being a sexually satisfied New Zealander? Well, the fairer sex wins when it comes to carnal contentment. More women reported being totally sexually satisfied (33.8%) than their male counterparts (28.5%). And a move to Hastings might be in order with a significant 43% of respondents from the area indicating complete satisfaction, making it New Zealand’s most sexually satisfied region. Consider packing in your job too with unemployed respondents indicating greater happiness with their sex lives than those who work. Those in relationships were more satisfied than their married or single peers and sexuality played a part too, with straight respondents happier in the bedroom than gay or bisexual respondents. In short, if you’re an unemployed, 21-year old, straight female with a boyfriend, living in the Hawkes Bay, you’re likely to have a smile on your face.
The survey also measured other aspects of our sex lives including when we’re doing it (don’t knock on your neighbour’s door at 9am on a Saturday), and how many people we’re doing it with. Colin Craig will seek comfort in the results that New Zealand women reported a greater median number of sexual partners with eight bed-mates compared to New Zealand men with six. Although a more active faction of us may be inflating the national average with 1 in 5 respondents admitting to having slept with more than 20 partners.
These results are the first in the series from the Adulttoymegstore.co.nz Mega Kiwi Sex Survey to be released this year. Future results to come include the impact of technology of on kiwi sex lives, our degree of adventurism and our thoughts on dating.
