IFA announces appointment of new director
The Institute of Financial Advisers (IFA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Wellington-based financial adviser
Michael Dowling to the Board. Dowling holds the internationally-recognised Certified Financial PlannerCM (CFPCM) and
Chartered Life Underwriter professional designations.
The appointment follows recent elections at the Institutes Council Meeting, held in May. “We are fortunate to bring a
practitioner with such strong credentials to the Institute,” Vidler says. “Dowling’s extensive business experience and
acumen will make him a valuable contributor to the board, particularly as we further the interests of our members by
positioning ourselves as the only professional body for financial advice in New Zealand."
Dowling has been a financial adviser since 1989 when he joined AMP, a connection that remains through his shareholding
in AMP-aligned and Wellington-based Stratus Financial Services. He currently serves on the Institutes Insurance Special
Interest Group and is a member of the Professional Development Committee.
The Institute also appointed Nigel Tate CFPCM, CLU of Hamilton for a further two-year term as President and re-elected
Jordi Garcia CFPCM from Auckland to the Board. Jeremy Bendall of Auckland was also appointed for a two year term as one
of two Independent Directors.
Dowling is to replace outgoing board member, Liz Koh CFPCM. "At this time the Board would like to express its gratitude
to Liz Koh, who has served diligently on the Board for the past two years," added Vidler.
The above directors will join the existing board members Tony Vidler CFPcm, CLU, Neville Caird CFPCM and Independent
Director, Julie Berry CFPCM (Aust) as at 1 July 2012.
