Squiz wins Victoria University CMS tender

Victoria University of Wellington has awarded its content management system (CMS) replacement project to Squiz New Zealand, after a comprehensive tender process and successful pilot project.
“Squiz is delighted to be awarded the business,” said Squiz managing director Patrick FitzGerald.
The project involves migrating 40 websites from the University’s current platform, and into the Squiz Matrix open source enterprise CMS, as well as training more than 100 content editors, in a tight timeframe.
Squiz Matrix will provide opportunities for increased integration, easier editing, and development of new functionality – enhancements that can be developed once the migration is bedded down.
Squiz Matrix is gaining recognition as a preferred tertiary education CMS, with a growing number of universities and polytechnics moving onto the platform.
New Zealand users include Auckland University of Technology, University of Waikato, and departments at Otago and Massey Universities, as well as Christchurch and Manukau Institutes of Technology.
Overseas users include Oxford University Library Services, Oxford Union, Adam Mickiewicz University (Poland), Brunel University (UK), Edith Cowan University, Griffith University, Pomeranian Medical University, as well as the universities of Malta, Salford, Stirling, Sydney, Tasmania, Western Australia and Westminster.
According to Squiz NZ Sales director Kathy Olsen, “Universities typically need an enterprise CMS that can scale to run lots of websites, with many content editors, and reasonably high site traffic.
“Choosing an open source product means that more budget can be allocated to useful projects – rather than sunk into licensing fees.
“Universities also typically have skilled web and technical teams, with the capability to learn new technology and develop new functionality in-house. That fits Squiz’s business model of supporting clients to do as much – or as little – for themselves as they want.”
