New Premises for SGS New Zealand West Coast Minerals Services Laboratory
The world’s largest testing and inspection company, SGS, is in the process of developing a new laboratory in Westport. The new facility is being designed to specifically meet the needs of a modern minerals and environmental laboratory in order to better serve its West Coast clients.
New equipment has been purchased for the new facility that will primarily service the coal and gold mining sectors although it is anticipated that a range of environmental analysis will be offered as well.
SGS recently won the laboratory services contract for Oceana Gold and has just commenced a five year contract to provide Laboratory and Fuel Technology Services for Solid Energy’s coal operations in the North and South Island.
SGS have entered a long term agreement with a property developer to lease the new faciity. Construction has recently commenced and will involve a number of contractors including Coast Wide services who are the principle builders. The project is expected to be completed in August with the laboratory anticipated to be operational by September.
