Nakedbus.Com Reaches One Million Passenger Milestone
The school holidays have got off to a great start for a Rotorua mum after she became the millionth passenger to travel
with nakedbus.com today.
Bernice Fleming and her two children arrived in Auckland from Rotorua to spend time with family during the school
holidays, when she was told she was the lucky winner.
Bernice received a commemorative plaque and a prize pack including tickets for future travel with nakedbus.com.
"I can't believe it is me. I have never won anything before," Bernice said.
Bernice said she uses nakedbus.com frequently because it is cheap, convenient and she doesn’t enjoy driving long
distances.
“I’ll use the tickets for my children’s travel. They come to Auckland often to spend time with their dad.”
The no-frills bus operator launched four years ago with super-cheap fares from as low as $1. Prices increase closer to
departure time. Company founder and CEO Hamish Nuttall said reaching 1 million passengers is a proud moment in the
company’s history.
“When we launched, we knew our low fares would be popular, but we have been overwhelmed by the support from Kiwis and
travellers alike,” Nuttall said.
Since arriving on the scene, nakedbus.com has experienced strong growth each year and now holds 23% market share. More
routes and buses have been added each year to keep up with the demand and eight more buses will be added to the fleet in
time for the Rugby World Cup.
“The World Cup will generate a great deal of additional trips around the country as rugby fans not only get to the
games, but explore our country as well. We are determined to give them a first class experience at great prices, and we
are already getting travel enquiries for this period.”
Nakedbus.com sells tickets on the internet and via text messages sent to customers' mobile phones. The company expanded
its operation to the South Island in 2007 and operates out of all main centres and tourist hotspots.
