Port companies comment on Marine and Coastal Area Bill
“Port companies believe the Bill has several positive features for their sector and look forward to the Select Committee process”, consultant to the 15 member port CEO group, Barrie Saunders said today.
“The port company CEOs very much appreciate the open and frank way the Attorney General Christopher Finlayson has dealt with port company concerns. We have met several times with the Minister and officials.
“He and his colleagues have adopted some of our suggestions, including the very sensible and practical proposition, that fee simple titles be issued for port reclamations.
“We are also pleased that the Bill accepts essential infrastructure such as ports must be allowed to operate without any new restrictions flowing from the granting of new Maori customary marine titles.
“The Bill is complex and we will be making a submission aimed at resolving any outstanding issues”, he said.
