Spencer takes over KiwiRail chairman role from Bolger as government digests strategic plan
By Peter Kerr
March 30 (BusinessWire) – Wellington company director John Spencer has been appointed to take over from Jim Bolger as chairman of KiwiRail as the government mulls the railroad’s 10 year strategic plan ahead of the Budget.
Spencer, who will retire from his role as deputy chairman at Solid Energy at the end of April to take on his new KiwiRail role, successfully led the merger of Asure and AgriQuality in 2007. He retains his role as chair of SOE AsureQuality.
Other SOE appointments are Diane Kidd on AsureQuality, John Dell and Rukumoana Schaafhausen on Genesis Energy, Traci Houpapa on Landcorp, Mary Devine on Meridian Energy, Prue Flacks on Mighty River Power, David Willis on NZ Post and David Patterson on Solid Energy.
In a similarly timed announcement, Justice Minister Simon Power said that Trevor Janes will become chairman of Public Trust from May 1, replacing present chair Donal Curtin.
Curtin’s role at the Commerce Commission was recently restricted to prevent any conflict of interest after further private party court proceedings were filed against him. The legal proceedings, issued recently and last year in the Auckland High Court, relate to his former role as a consultant to defunct advisory firm Vestar Financial Services.
Christchurch-based solicitor Sue McCormack has also been appointed to the Public Trust board.
