Councils’ Decision Welcomed By Stadium Trust
The Stadium Trust has welcomed the decision of the Dunedin City Council and Otago Regional Council to reconfirm their commitment to fund the Forsyth Barr Stadium at University Plaza.
Stadium Trust Chairman Malcolm Farry says: “The decisions made this week are a very positive commitment to the continued development of the new stadium. As expected, the project has some conditions and we have been working on these with aim of having them fulfilled within the appropriate timeframes.
“We now have a project. New Zealand south of the Waitaki will have an iconic facility of outstanding benefit for many decades beyond its completion.
“Our goal remains to start construction this year. That way, the community can get the earliest possible benefit from the estimated 600 jobs required for the two-year construction project and open the Stadium by 2011,” he said.
