Radio New Zealand First To Use Web Cameras in 2005
Radio New Zealand disputes the claim by commercial network Newstalk ZB that their introduction of webcams to studios is
the first such venture for a major radio station in New Zealand.
Radio New Zealand National introduced web cams to the studio for the summer of 2005 for the Matinee Idle programme
hosted by radio personality Phil O’Brien. Matinee Idle is a popular established feature of summer programming on the
public service broadcasting network.
Radio New Zealand has also experimented with the use of web cams and live streaming video for presentation from live
music venues during the Music 101 programme.
Latest research shows that Radio New Zealand National has a cume audience of more than 500,000 New Zealanders.
