Car lovers to get driver’s seat focus
The prestigious British magazine “Car” is being launched into New Zealand.
A local edition of the 46-year-old magazine will contain the best of the British edition and up to 50% of local material.
Award-winning motoring journalist David Linklater will edit Car New Zealand and news, views and test drive stories will be supplied by contributors including Steve Vermuelen, Brian Cowan, Peter Bromhead and Richard Bosselman.
Publisher Celia Drummond says the licence to publish in New Zealand was secured by Carnation NZ Ltd, a private company that has extended its automotive technology base into the print arena. Auckland businessman and Director of Carnation NZ Ltd, John Galvin told the launch to around 70 advertising and media specialists he had bought Car Magazine since he was a youth and shifting his collection of the magazine to a new house had caused problems. Launching the magazine into New Zealand had been a dream that was now real.
Drummond is a branding and licensing specialist. She has managed the Clinique and Walt Disney brands in New Zealand and in the licensing arena the Warner Bros stable, Ford and Jim Beam.
As expected, the Car brand has already had a fantastic response in the New Zealand market Drummond says. Car’s history, style and focus on putting readers in the drivers’ seat to take the world’s most prestigious motor vehicles to places they were designed to go, makes it one of the most respected magazines in its genre in the world.
The print version of Car New Zealand hits the magazine racks from December 1. However, like the UK version, there is an interactive website (www.carmagazine.co.nz ) that has already gone live.
