Harcourts franchise awarded preferred supplier status for Te Kauwhata's Aparangi Village
22 September 2008 – Harcourts’ franchise Riverlands Real Estate Limited has just been named the preferred supplier of real estate
services for Aparangi Village in the North Waikato town of Te Kauwhata.
The company, which owns and operates Harcourts offices in Te Kauwhata and Huntly, was appointed recently as the
preferred real estate company by the Te Kauwhata Retirement Trust Board which is responsible for operating Aparangi
Village, a retirement village predominantly made up of own your own housing for residents.
Riverlands Real Estate Co-owner Dallas Hodge says she is excited about the new relationship, which will see the
Harcourts Te Kauwhata team marketing dwellings in the village on behalf of residents or their estate.
“Our Te Kauwhata office has only been opened a few weeks so this is a really great boost for us,” she says, “and given
Aparangi Village is such an integral part of the Te Kauwhata community it’s a great way to get more involved in the
community we support.
“We certainly hope this is the start of a long and successful association.”
Te Kauwhata Retirement Board Trust Chairperson Neil Bateup agrees.
“Riverlands Real Estate impressed us with their proactive and professional approach. When coupled with the strength and
advantages of the Harcourts brand and the skills and experience in the local team we were thrilled to appoint them as
our preferred real estate provider and we look forward to working with them long into the future,”he says
Developed from 1975 onwards, Aparangi Village provides a wide range of retirement accommodation and residential care
options, with the majority of the village devoted to own-your-own housing for highly independent retirees, who each have
an Occupation Rights Agreement on a site and home.
As Mrs Hodge explains there are three ways in which own-your-own housing options can be entered into. The first option
is to buy an existing dwelling, with options ranging from three bedroom+ houses to smaller detached houses and terraced
townhouses. The second option is to build a new dwelling on a vacant site (with the design subject to the Trust Board’s
approval), or thirdly people can choose a dwelling from the design stage onward when, from time to time, the Trust Board
undertakes the building of new own your own houses.
As the ability of a resident to care for a large home diminishes, there is the option to move to a rented
semi-independent flat. Also available to rent are double and single bedroom terraced flats. Plus, at the heart of the
village is the Residential Care Unit which offers continuing, respite, palliative and day care.
