_Rockdale Wins Again
With hardly a race meeting going by without an NZB Ready to Run Sale graduate boasting the Sale's merits, it was promising three-year-old Rockdale who continued the success on Saturday, leading throughout the QTC Hanrickcurran Handicap (1400m) to score easily against the older horses at Eagle Farm.
Purchased at last year's Sale by his trainer John Morrisey, Rockdale (Danroad x Komplete Kaos, by Desert Sun) was a winner of the Group 1 TJ Smith Classic last season. The imposing gelding has now won two of his six career starts, been placed on a further three occasions, and has earned A$426,000 in prizemoney. He currently holds entries in the Caulfield Guineas and the Cox Plate.
Phil Cataldo Bloodstock pinhooked Rockdale as a yearling from the 2007 Karaka Select Sale for $55,000, before Morrisey bid to $135,000 to secure the colt from Phoenix Park at the Ready to Run Sale.
Rockdale's sire Danroad, himself a stakes-winner as a two-year-old, stands at Brent and Louise Gillovic's Highview Stud in Hamilton. He is by Danehill and from the stakes-placed mare Strawberry Girl (Strawberry Road). Rockdale is from Danroad's first crop to race which also includes the stakes-performer Amazing Sky.
New Zealand Bloodstock's Ready to Run Sale of 2YOs will be held on 18 & 19 November at Karaka with the Breeze Ups at Te Rapa on 20 & 21 October. To request a catalogue or Breeze Up DVD in advance, email reception@nzb.co.nz.
