Early Milk Season Good News For Kiwirail
KiwiRail already has two milk trains a day in full swing, which is the earliest the services have ever got underway.
KiwiRail Milk Train Co-ordinator Allan Adams says it’s certainly unusual to have two trains going already and it bodes
well for the rest of the season.
“Normally the milk train season peaks from September to December with 5 trains operational daily but we now expect this
to be extended further,” says Mr Adams.
The milk trains operate from Oringi in the Hawkes Bay district and Longburn near Palmerston North to Whareroa near
Hawera and a third train will come into service on Thursday August 28.
Motorists are also warned that with the milk trains now back running they should be extra alert around level crossings
in the area in case they have become complacent while the trains have been out of operation.
