Save Your Marriage – be careful who you get to design your kitchen!
What is the biggest stress you can put on yourself and your loved ones? Creating and installing a kitchen or bathroom
that doesn’t fit, doesn’t work and doesn’t last. It’s not too late to save your marriage!
Milvia Hannah, President of the New Zealand chapter of the National Kitchen & Bathroom Association says that the kitchen is the heart of the home and you need to know you’re working with someone
you can trust before you ask them to rip your heart out.
“A beautiful kitchen is a delight – it should bring harmony, pleasure and efficiency to your life and when we ask
someone to design and install a new kitchen for us, we all get excited by that dream,” she says. “But the stages of
deconstruction and installation can challenge even the stoutest relationship and it is so important to entrust that
important project to someone skilled and trustworthy and best of all, someone with experience!”
Milvia Hannah is presiding over this year’s NKBA Kitchen & Bathroom Awards to be announced at a gala dinner on the 11th of September at the Langham Hotel – the industry’s annual
celebration of the best examples of kitchen and bathroom design in New Zealand.
The NKBA champions the highest standards of design, workmanship and professionalism in the kitchen and bathroom
industry. They will also be putting together an impressive demonstration of fabulous kitchen design at the Yellow™
Auckland Home Show at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland on the 10th – 14th September.
“The entries this year are breathtaking,” says Milvia, “and we’re pleased to see that our members are continuing to
create truly world class results.” In fact so impressed were the judges with the student entries, that they’ve gone to
the extent of getting the winning entry built for display on the NKBA stand at the Homeshow.
All entries will be on show and winners’ rosettes will be placed on Friday morning after the gala awards dinner.
Also on display will be two superb show kitchens designed and built by NKBA members designed to show the public just how
a good kitchen should look – and top designers will be on the stand over the duration of the Homeshow to meet with
members of the public.
“There are several very important design principals that make an effective kitchen,” says Milvia. “It needs to have a
good flow between workspaces and appliances; it should have a good feeling of space and it should allow the person
cooking to have easy social interaction without people getting in the way or under their feet.
“And importantly, it should be built swiftly and effectively without undue distress to the homeowners and their partners
and family – so that the end result adds efficiency, harmony and beauty to the lives of all who meet there.
