Norfolk Island gets serious case of the cool
Sub-tropical Norfolk Island goes cool again this December as the island’s annual jazz festival makes its seventh
appearance.
With its feel-good vibe the annual Norfolk Island Jazz in the Pines Festival is a much anticipated event attracting a
serious line up of Australasian talent.
Twenty-two performers feature in the five-day Norfolk Island Jazz in the Pines Festival in a range of concerts at
various scenic island venues between 7 and 14 December.
Among them is pianist-humorist, Dorian Mode, who embellishes his concerts with rib-tickling yarns and readings from
books he has written on life and travel. Dorian is joined by veteran crooner, Les Crosby, who has grooved with Sammy
Davis Jr .
Dinner concerts and a matinee roll out a huge array of talent, including Al Davey and his monSTARS from Sydney and
Newcastle-based saxophonist Trevor Furmer and his Unsafe Sax group. They also back award-winning Newcastle/Sydney
soloist Julie Wilson.
New Zealand singer Malcolm McNeill is on the island this December, teaming up with the Mike Walker Trio and Sydney-based
jazz soloist, Jo Elms is also lending her talent to the exciting line-up.
Jazz lovers won’t be disappointed with this year’s festival and can look forward to a week full of finger-snapping and
toe-tapping to the catchy sounds of swing, funk and blues.
