The Hospitality Industry’s premier showcase event of the year
Despite being in the midst of a national ‘tightening of the belt’, the hospitality industry is still reporting a $4.8 billion turnover. New Zealand’s best and brightest in the hospitality industry will be showcased at the upcoming Hospitality NZ Show at the end of August.
Set to attract thousands of people to the ASB showgrounds, the Hospitality NZ show is the hospitality industry’s event of the year. The show encompasses five main events over the course of three days including:
 The Hospitality Show is the industry’s premier trade show and has the most comprehensive gathering of hospitality industry suppliers and customers in New Zealand.
 Wine New Zealand attracts only the finest in the hospitality industry and provides the opportunity to meet with winemakers and discuss their wines in detail. New for 2008, it incorporates the Innovation in Wine Series which includes the Corbans Viticulture Seminars, Buyer’s Choice Awards and the inaugural Esvin Innovation in Wine Awards
 Coffee and Beverage lays claim to New Zealand’s most extensive range of industry exhibitors, demonstrations, seminars and workshops. The Da Vinci Trans Tasman Barista Championships are becoming a fought over accolade as the rival teams compete to be the best with the awaited final being contested at the show.
 The Telecom Seminars is a three day lecture series offering an in-depth and varied range of seminars for owners, managers, and senior staff members within the industry.
 The Culinary Fare is a competition forum with over 65 competitions based on key hospitality skills. It is also the decider of several prestigious “Of the Year” awards.
The Hospitality NZ show will also play host to three major competitions this year. The Restaurant of the Year will be decided on the Sunday and has the much coveted prize of a two-page spread in Dish magazine.
The Torque D’Or on Monday is the premier national competition between invited teams of three students and covers both cookery and restaurant service skills.
The New Zealand National final for the Global Chefs Challenge will take place on Tuesday where eight regional chefs will compete for the right to represent New Zealand at the Pacific Region Final in Australia in 2009 and then for the chance to win the opportunity to go on to the World Final in Santiago, Chile in 2010.
Michele Harrod, the manager of HospitalityNZ, states: “The hospitality industry is becoming more of a career choice and now with the demand for increasing professionalism in the industry there are more training opportunities available. The show is about offering everyone in the industry a chance to compete at the highest levels and pit their skills against the best New Zealand has to offer.”
She continues: “In one of the most highly critiqued industries that exists it is crucial that participants stay up-to-date with new trends and products and demonstrate increasing professionalism and competence.”
The Hospitality NZ show will be held from the 31st August until the 2nd September at the ASB showgrounds. Please go to the website www.hospitalitynz.co.nz to find out how to gain entry to each of the events.
