Downtown Eco-therapy’s taking root in Wellington
Wellington CBD workers will again have the chance to take a relaxing break and do something positive for the environment
at the second Downtown Eco-therapy tree potting session on Wednesday 23 April in Midland Park from 12pm to 1.30pm.
Last month between 80 and 100 Wellingtonians took part in potting native tree seedlings that are being used to replant
an old landfill site in southern Wellington.
The seedlings come from the Southern Environment Association’s native plant nursery.
“I think a lot of people who work in downtown Wellington really want to do something for the environment, without
protesting, without a big fuss. The project should make it really easy for people to do something enjoyable that is also
positive for the environment,” says Organiser Ron Eckman.
“We’ve got Council permission again. If this session works, this could become a regular thing in downtown Wellington.”
The Downtown Eco-therapy team will again provide gloves, aprons and other equipment.
Downtown Eco-therapy is supported by the Wellington City Council, Victoria University, Wellington Regional Council,
Ministry for the Environment, Southern Environment Association and Bunnings.
