Statistics New Zealand apologises for early release of External Migration data: December 2007 year
Statistics New Zealand has apologised for the early release of External Migration data: December 2007 year on 18
February 2008, which was released in error at 10.45am, under embargo, a day ahead of schedule.
Government Statistician Geoff Bascand said the premature release of the latest migration statistics was due to human
error.
“Statistics New Zealand sets an absolute priority on timely release of the data we produce. Failure to adhere to our
published deadlines is a serious matter, and something we know can cause significant disadvantage to a number of people
who rely on the information being made available precisely at the pre-determined time. Fortunately, although
regrettable, this is a very rare occurrence."
“We have instigated a review of the reasons behind the premature release and will take steps to ensure this is not
repeated,” he said
