International Boat Show sets up for record year

February 4th 2008
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Auckland International Boat Show 2008 sets up for a record year!

The Auckland International Boat Show has confirmed more than 200 exhibitors at this year’s special 10th anniversary event. From multimillion dollar super-yachts to inflatable dinghy’s, to marine industry fashion, there’s something to keep everyone entertained at this years show. Organisers are predicting a bumper turn out of more than 22,000 people to attend the Viaduct Harbour event from March 6th – 9th.

One of the major vessels on exhibit will be the Catana 58 luxury catamaran from Moorings Signature Fleet. The 58 foot yacht is privately owned and valued at $2.4 million. It features three double state rooms, en-suite bathrooms and separate crew quarters. The Catana 58 is one of only 100 of its sort worldwide and will wow crowds with its stunning dark wood interior and contemporary design.

The Yamaha F350 V8 will also turn a few heads at the show, having just won the US Boating Industry Association’s Innovation Award which recognises technological advancement, performance and environmental measures. As the world’s biggest and most advanced outboard the F350 is also the world’s first V8 outboard.

The ‘Young 88’ from Mike Pearce Boat Builders will also be a standout attraction at this years show. On display as one of the locally designed and produced sailing yachts, this class production boat is one of the top rated racing and cruising yachts in New Zealand. This classic yacht design is now in production again and will be of major interest to yachtsmen around New Zealand.

Top line electronics will also feature at the show such as Raymarine’s new premier navigation G Series System. Used as a complete command and entertainment system, this brand new navigation technology is an Australasian first and will be launched at the upcoming Boat Show.

The introduction of a daily Fashion Show is a new feature at the 2008 Auckland International Boat Show. The Fashion Show will include new ranges of marine clothing, croc shoes, gorgeous summer dresses, nautical menswear and the latest in marine wet weather gear. A new area has been customized on site at the Halsey Street venue where the show will be held and will also encompass an array of fashion label exhibitors and a new food and refreshments area.

“The Marine Industry employs 10,000 people and exports around $600 million of business each year. At this years show we can expect to bring in $100 million of business to the New Zealand Marine Industry,” says Marine Industry Association’s Executive Director, Peter Busfield.
