New term for UCOL CEO
UCOL Chief Executive
Paul McElroy has renewed his contract with for a further
five years. UCOL Council Chairperson, Duncan Milne, says
Council is extremely pleased to be able to secure Mr McElroy
for a further term effective from January 2008 until 2013.
Mr Milne says that the UCOL Council is delighted that they have been able to retain the tenure of a Chief Executive of Mr McElroy’s calibre. The renewal of contract gives Council the confidence UCOL will continue to remain in good hands and provide stability for the institution during a time of change within the tertiary sector. Mr Milne says “Mr McElroy brings with him a commitment and passion for education, an extensive knowledge of the tertiary education environment and is well recognised and respected within the polytechnic sector. This combination along with his sound leadership will put UCOL in good stead for the coming years.”Mr McElroy commenced at UCOL (formerly Manawatu Polytechnic) as Director Corporate Services in 1991, and subsequently became Chief Executive in 1996.
Mr Milne says since then Mr McElroy has led the institution through many changes including the construction of a new city campus in Palmerston North in 1998, the incorporation of the former Wairarapa Community Polytechnic in 2001, and the Wanganui Regional Community Polytechnic in 2002.
Mr McElroy is dedicated to polytechnic based education and training with its emphasis on vocational education and applied learning, and believes in engaging with the issues that impact the polytechnic and tertiary sector.
Mr McElroy says that he is looking forward to leading UCOL for a further term and is relishing the prospect of the challenges ahead. Mr McElroy says, “I am a firm believer of UCOL’s role in transforming people’s lives through education and I look forward to continuing to lead the institution and staff to achieve that purpose.”
