“Hortitech NZ joins NZ Agritech Inc.”
The Directors of NZ Agritech Inc., at their meeting of November 22, have approved the inclusion of the members of
Hortitech NZ and welcome them as a sector within Agritech.
Agritech has been operating successfully since 1994 and the common objectives and aims of both Hortitech and Agritech
are readily translated into common ground.
The inclusion of the members of Hortitech will bring membership in Agritech to a total of more than 120 member companies
who receive benefits according to their inputs and involvement within the organisation.
A common and non conflicting presence at overseas agricultural trade events, publicity through the Agritech website,
receiving trade enquiries, investigating potential export markets and inter-membership discussion are some of the
benefits that are derived.
Agritech membership comprises a wide ranging list of companies involved in animal health, electric fencing, seeds and
forage systems, genetics, inbound agricultural tours, livestock identification and handling, dairy processing equipment,
research and consultancy and other special products and services.
New Zealand is widely recognized for its proven leadership and technology in many agricultural and pastoral areas. The
members of Agritech comprise individuals who are entrepreneurial and innovative to produce new products and services
that can be developed into business opportunities on a global scale or in valuable niche markets.
Hortitech membership comprises companies who provide technology, products and services to the horticultural sector
including pollination delivery systems, frost protection, fruit handling equipment, specialist education and other
specialised products and consultancy.
Hortitech is a relatively young organisation but has adopted a positive approach to deriving benefits for its members at
the best value. The merging into Agritech fulfils this objective and has received the support of the individual member
companies.
Heather McEwen, of Xenacom Limited has been acting as CEO of Hortitech and has been an instigator of the process and its
evaluation. Working with Paul Rivers, the CEO of Agritech, both parties could see the benefits so there was very little
convincing that needed to be done.
