Tell Trevor: Buzz Channel Gives NZ The Chance

Tell Trevor: Buzz Channel gives New Zealand the chance to have their say on the stadium.
New Zealand’s leading edge online research company has set up a website www.telltrevor.co.nz to allow all New Zealanders to have their say in the stadium debate. The site asks readers for their views on the proposals, but goes a lot further than the quick fire polls to gather information to form the basis of an informed study.
“We set ‘Tell Trevor’ up over the weekend as a non partisan, central point for everyone to get their view across and to try to extend the debate beyond the one answer question of 'which one',” says Nick Macdonald of Buzz Channel. “Outside of simply finding stadium preference we thought it crucial to understand why people were making their decisions and the issues surrounding their choice.”
At this early stage, the top line figures from the 5838 people who have already taken part see 42% favouring Eden Park to 35% for the Waterfront (the other 23% preferring a host of options). Nick stresses though, that there is a lot of interesting information coming out of the opinions and it will take more than top line figures to make sense of the results. Indeed, it would seem, that there are two very significant issues rolled into one. The first is where New Zealanders want the stadium; the second, but no less significant, is the depth of feeling surrounding the planning for Auckland’s waterfront.
“We are aiming to get many more people through the website to give their opinion and, in essence, we are hoping to have a public consultation in a very limited time period. It’s all about democracy for the people,” said Nick.
At the end of the two week period Buzz Channel will be collating all of the data available, weighting the findings and presenting the research to Trevor Mallard, Dick Hubbard and the public at large. In the meantime, preliminary findings and public comments will be available on the Tell Trevor website.
