Top Value Bubbles Set For Summer Sparkle
Terrace Road Classic Brut NV has been selected as the Best Sparkling Wine Buy of the Year in the newly released Michael
Cooper’s Buyer’s Guide to New Zealand Wines 2007.
The Marlborough wine is part of the Cellier Le Brun stable and was blended by top New Zealand wine maker Mark Inglis.
The guide also selected Corbans Private Bin Hawke's Bay Gewurztraminer 2004 as the Best White Wine Buy of the Year, and
Villa Maria Cellar Selection Marlborough Pinot Noir 2005 as the Best Red Wine Buy of the Year.
For less than $20 Michael Cooper says that the Terrace Road Classic Brut shows much of the intensity, complexity and
finesse of its stable-mates.
“If you want a New Zealand bubbly with character, finesse and downright drinkability, Terrace Road Classic Brut is an
obvious choice. Why pay more?”
Winemaker Mark Inglis says the Terrace Road Classic Brut epitomises the best things about being a sparkling winemaker in
New Zealand.
“The big advantage we have, of course, is the fruit. Marlborough is an awesome place to grow great grapes for sparkling
wine. The warm days and cold nights give great fruit intensity and power to the wines. It is a real delight to chaperone
the wines through the winemaking process. Producing wine in Marlborough is a winemaker’s dream really.
“The essence of all sparkling wine made in the Champagne style is to bring together the three great grape varieties and
balance their characteristics; the power of Pinot noir, the fruit of Pinot meunier and the finesse and elegance of
Chardonnay. Terrace Road Classic Brut base wines are grown, made and blended with this in mind.
“The name says a lot about the way in which it is made Classic meaning just using the classic grape varieties and
techniques and Brut, indicating just enough sweetness to balance the tight acidity.
“The aroma is a delightful blend of citrus, fleshy berry fruit and a toastiness derived from the bottle aging. The
palate continues the theme with a tight citrus backbone supporting the fruit and toast characters.
“For under $20 I think Terrace Road Classic Brut is a great buy. It is a good classic bubbly which is perfect for
enjoying in the summer and over the festive season.”
Michael Cooper’s Buyer’s Guide to New Zealand Wines 2007 is available in bookstores now.
