Hyundai Getz a winner in 2006 Greenfleet Awards
The Hyundai Getz 1.5 CRDi has won the Transport for London Private Sector Award at the 2006 GreenFleet Awards. The
Hyundai Getz was put through a testing 30-mile journey across central London to win the award, finishing second in the
2006 GreenFleet Capital Fuel Challenge, hosted by the London Borough of Camden.
The Getz 1.5 diesel beat off three hybrids, two biodiesel engines and another diesel to come second overall in the
economy drive event.
The results clearly demonstrate that a Hyundai diesel engine can be as economical as a hybrid engine if driven
correctly. Of three Toyota Prius cars involved in the GreenFleet challenge, the Hyundai Getz 1.5 litre diesel beat two,
using just 2.6 kg of fuel to complete the 30-mile course compared to 2.2 kg used by the first placed Toyota Prius.
Moreover, the Getz tied with the best performing Toyota Prius in terms of cost, coming in at just 9 pence per mile.
Spencer Freedman from GreenFleet said: “This was a real world test, which highlights the environmental and cost benefits
of choosing the right vehicle to get around London. The success of the Hyundai Getz demonstrates that clean diesel
engines, if driven defensively, can be just as cost and fuel efficient as alternative fuelled vehicles.”
This very model of diesel Getz will be on sale in New Zealand from 1 November 2006. “It is great to see both how far
diesel technology has come over the past decade, and that Hyundai is leading the way. It is also even better news for
New Zealand motorists that they will be able to experience this vehicle in New Zealand in the coming weeks,” commented
