Maersk Line to assess possible ports merger
Maersk New Zealand managing director Tony Gibson says the shipping line will take time to analyse the proposal announced today by Port of Tauranga and Ports of Auckland to merge their port companies.
Mr Gibson said that it was a complex proposal and the line was yet to form a view on its implications for shipping services or its customers.
"We have no view yet as to what this means for New Zealand exporters and importers, but we will study the proposal and talk to our customers.
"Our goal remains to help our New Zealand customers create the most efficient supply chain possible to reach their international markets. Whether this proposal assists or threatens that remains to be seen."
