International Journalism Award for North & South Writer
North & South senior writer Jenny Chamberlain has been awarded the prestigious European Union Journalism Award for New Zealand journalists, in the wake of her probing May cover story “Our Shame” on New Zealand’s shabby child abuse statistics.
The story was published six weeks before the horrific, and as yet unsolved, Kahui twins murder.
The European Union award will fund a two week $20,000 trip to Paris and the Netherlands where Chamberlain will research European Union child welfare policies and their possible implications for solutions in New Zealand. Jenny will head to Europe on her study tour in early November.
This is another significant award for North & South and affirms the magazine’s crucial role in being involved in international research aimed at finding solutions to local issues.
