Kiwi Tourists Boost Citron Sales In Europe
New Zealand tourists have helped Citron Australia boost its sales in Europe by 47 per cent in 2006, which means that the
Australian Citron importer passed its total 2005 sales in Europe by March this year.
“No, we’ve not started exporting our cars back to Europe, via New Zealand!” explains Miles Williams, General Manager for
Citron in Australia. “Earlier this year we launched DriveEurope in New Zealand, following on from its success in
Australia, and it has played a significant role in boosting our European sales.”
“So far this year we have delivered more than 1000 new Citroens in Europe to New Zealanders and Australians on holiday
and who taking advantage of the Citron DriveEurope programme that puts tourists behind the wheel for an all-inclusive
price of as little as $27 a day. This massively undercuts anything that conventional major rental companies can offer
and that’s before all the other advantages of DriveEurope are factored in, such as the ability to use the cars across
the whole of Europe, the ability to tailor model choice to meet specific requires and the useful facility of being able
to order specific options, such as SatNav, child seats and snow chains,” explains Mr Williams.
The Citron DriveEurope programme is ideal for New Zealand tourists visiting Europe, who tend to go on longer than usual
visits and wish to roam across the whole continent. Conventional major car rental companies are not able to match
Citron’s low rates with an all-inclusive package covering insurance and taxes that can be paid in New Zealand before
departure. Nor do rental companies like their customers to travel out of one country and into another. Citron not only
covers Europe, it also includes Iceland, Morocco and as far East as Iran and Israel in the countries in which owners are
able to use their DriveEurope Citroens.
With rental companies it is usually only possible to request a specific car, while with Citron’s DriveEurope travelers
may order not just a specific model and version, they can also add optional equipment to meet their specific needs and
it is always a brand new Citron that awaits their arrival in Europe. The range of vehicles available is also remarkable
for its breadth, opening with the Citron C3, including the Citron C4 Coupe and hatch, the luxury of the Citron C5 sedan
and estate and including no less than five different sizes of people mover, as well as the open-top Citron C3 Pluriel.
There is a wide choice of petrol and diesel options, as well manual and automatic choices.
With a car programme that seems as if it was tailored specifically for New Zealand tourist needs, it is perhaps not
surprising that Citron Australia operates the number one DriveEurope business in the world and has done so now for three
years.
“With our 47 per cent increase in business this year and our successful growth in New Zealand, there is no doubt that
the Number One crown is something Citron Australia plans to hold on to!” Says Miles Williams. “The reason for this
growth is simple, when it comes to providing a car in Europe for New Zealand travelers; the DriveEurope programme ticks
every box!”
