Its only 3 ½ days - get over it, says CTU
The Council of Trade Unions is reminding employers bemoaning the inability to trade over Easter break that there are
only 3 and a half days a year that are covered by shop trading restrictions.
"There needs to be some community days when shop employees can join other workers for a holiday," said Carol Beaumont,
CTU Secretary. "We are calling on retailers to comply with the shop trading hours legislation - which requires no
trading on Good Friday and Easter Sunday for most retailers."
The CTU is also calling on employers to make sure they comply with the Holidays Act provisions of time and half and a
day in lieu for those working on public holidays, or any superior provisions in collective agreements.
"Employers should not think that they can ignore the law, and unions will be making sure members receive their full
legal entitlements," said Carol Beaumont.
