New editor and new look for NZ Gardener magazine
The new editor of NZ Gardener is putting passion back into the publication that has been inspiring green-fingered Kiwis for over 60 years.
Well-known gardening guru Lynda Hallinan joins the NZ Gardener team as editor, and the May issue (on sale Monday 10 April) reflects a new direction for the magazine.
“New Zealanders rate gardening second only to walking as their favourite leisure activity. We want to encourage more Kiwis to be proud of our horticultural heritage.”
“Gardening trends change with the seasons but minimalist courtyard makeovers have definitely had their day, so we’re taking the magazine back to its roots with an inspiring mix of expert advice, design tips and planting ideas for real gardens,” says Lynda.
Lynda brings over 10 years of experience to the role of editor, having previously worked for other gardening publications, including the Sunday Star Times as gardening editor, and as host of TV show ‘Ground Rules’. She is also the author of ‘New Zealand Garden in Style’.
The content of NZ Gardener has been completely revamped to give it a unique Kiwi flavour, with a broader mix of features and new writers and columnists. Each month Canterbury humorist Joe Bennett shares his advice for blokes with brown thumbs, and a fresh focus on edible gardening includes seasonal recipes from new food editor Alessandra Zecchini, as well as practical advice from Dennis Greville in Christchurch.
“We also want to showcase the regional diversity of New Zealand gardens – our May issue celebrates gorgeous gardens from Waiheke Island to Stewart Island.”
The new-look May issue also features more stories about people and plants, from two “plantaholic” hydrangea growers in Taranaki and Wellington to Akaroa rose expert Barbara Lea Taylor’s recommendations for tough, disease-resistant roses.
The new ‘In Season’ section picks top trees and shrubs to make the most of spectacular autumn colours in cold climates, and floral designer Fionna Hill has step-by-step instructions to make a stunning seasonal wreath.
The new-look NZ Gardener magazine is on sale from Monday 10 April and retails for $6.50.
